California Sets EV Charging Access Goals

by | Nov 30, 2021 | 0 comments |

California is on its way to improve their climate change action by setting new goals for EV charging stations across the state. In California, ICEs are the largest source of greenhouse-gas emissions. The Governor of California, Gavin Newsom, set the goal that all new cars sold in CA after 2035 will be zero-emission. This isn’t the first that the state has been prepping for electric vehicles to become the norm. California Green Building Standards Code is requiring 100% of new single-family homes to be capable of having an EV station installed on the property. Along with 40% of parking in multi-family housing being built be compatible for EV charging stations.

So far, the easiest way for an electric vehicle driver to charge their car is at their home. There aren’t enough public access chargers available to drive long distance and the prices of charging their vehicles can vary based on the charger and who owns it. This can be especially challenging to those who live in a condo or an apartment where parking is shared among other families and an EV charging station is not guaranteed among every facility. Facilities that house people in lower-income communities are less likely to have EV charging access

The EV Charging Access For All Coalition is working to spread awareness about the need of having accessible EV charging stations and providing the necessary building requirements to make EV charging stations easier to install in newly built facilities.
